About Microscopic Minimally-Invasive Spine Surgery
Spine surgery has traditionally been done as “open surgery,” meaning a generous incision is made to allow the surgeon to see and access all the anatomy they need to. Over the past few years, the field of minimally-invasive surgery has grown and made strives towards achieving similar results through smaller and smaller incisions. These techniques allow a surgeon to view all the same anatomy through a much smaller incision, thus preserving all the surrounding muscle and disturbing as little tissue as possible. The addition of a microscope allows for high-power magnification and the ability to tilt the microscope to allow for visualization of multiple areas of your spine through the same incision. This allows for less down-time, faster recovery, and less blood less. These techniques also allow for surgery to be done outpatient in our surgical center with a zero MRSA infection rate.
